LITERACY VOLUNTEERS of Greater Syracuse LVGS Thanks Supporters of its 12th Annual Corporate Breakfast

LVGS Thanks Supporters of its 12th Annual Corporate Breakfast

On April 8, 2008, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse, Inc. [LVGS] presented its 12th Annual Corporate Breakfast at Onondaga Community College.

Approximately 200 individual and corporate supporters attended the 12th Annual Corporate Breakfast themed Literacy: The Path to Personal Power. Edward Kochian, Deputy County Executive and Honorary Chair of this event, provided opening comments. Pamela Mullan, Onondaga Community College Assistant Professor of Reading, welcomed everyone to the event. Paraskeva Baberkova, Literacy Advocate, shared her inspirational story about coming to the United States from Bulgaria approximately seven years ago. LVGS introduced its workforce literacy project designed to cultivate competitive labor skills for unemployed and underemployed adults whose language or literacy skills have presented barriers to employment opportunities. The Keynote address was provided by Michael Kroth, Assistant Professor at the University of Idaho, author and corporate management consultant. Lastly, the Robert J. Colvin Award was presented to The Gifford Foundation for its efforts to improve the lives and literacy of residents throughout Onondaga County, through its ADVANS Initiative, and especially for its support of LVGS.
