How To Host a Friends and Family Challenge Party

These LVGS supporters have already organized their SCRABBLE Mania Friends and Family Challenge event!  Join the fun!

September 9 – C&S Companies

September 14 — UNO Chicago Grill, Fayetteville

September 15 — Phoebe’s Restaurant

December 4 — UNO Chicago Grill, Carousel Mall

Host a game of SCRABBLE in your home, office, church, school, or community center and raise money to support literacy in our community. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, students, and co-workers to challenge each other to a friendly game of SCRABBLE and ask them to make a donation to Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse (LVGS). To register your Friends & Family Challenge Party, please call the office at 315-471-1300.

Donations can be $10, $25, $50, or $100 – or any amount! There is no minimum amount to host a Friends and Family Challenge party, but we encourage you to set a fund raising goal. The group that raises the largest amount of money for LVGS will win a complimentary table at our SCRABBLE Mania Tournament on February 17, 2012 at the Syracuse University Sheraton! Last year, this event was sold out, so make your plans now and join the fun!

Step 1: Choose a date and invite your friends

Who should you invite? Friends you don’t see enough; the regular weekend crew; your book, wine or social club members; co-workers; college pals; fellow church goers; neighbors; students; and family members.

Pick a date any time between now and February 3, 2012.

If you will have more than 25 people at your event and would like a representative of LVGS to stop by, please call the office at 471-1300 to make arrangements.

Step 2: Register your Friends and Family Challenge Party

You must register your Friends and Family Challenge party to qualify for a free table at the SCRABBLE Mania Tournament in February! Call the LVGS office at 315-471-1300 to register your event.

Step 3: Make a checklist

You’ll need some basic supplies for your party, like game boards, pencils and paper, refreshments, and a comfortable place to play! Be sure to send us photos after the party.

If you would like some information about LVGS to share at your party, contact our office at 471-1300 or by email at office@lvgs.org and we’ll be sure to send you some.

Step 4: During your Friends and Family Challenge Party

Your guests will all be there because they want to make a difference and have some fun at the same time! It’s helpful to have someone who can assist you with hosting duties so that you can keep the game going and answer any questions that your guests may have. Your helper can keep refreshments flowing, drinks refilled, clean up any mishaps, and take photos for you.

You can collect donations at any time. Checks are best, but if your participants want to donate cash, be sure to include their names and contact information when you turn the proceeds in to us. We want to thank them for their support!

Step 5: After your Friends and Family Challenge Party

After the party (and the cleanup!) there are a couple of things for you to do.

Be sure to turn in your donations and contact information to LVGS to qualify for a free table at the SCRABBLE Mania Tournament on February 17, 2011 at the Syracuse University Sheraton.
