LVGS Thanks Supporters of Its 13th Annual Corporate Breakfast
On April 7, 2009, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse presented its 13th Annual Corporate Breakfast at The Genesee Grande Hotel.
Approximately 200 individual and corporate supporters attended the 13th Annual Corporate Breakfast themed: Literacy @ Work.
Randall Wolken, President of the Manufacturers Association of CNY served as Honorary Chair of the event. Mary Floyd, Literacy Advocate, shared an inspirational story about her accomplishments and experiences with LVGS. Martha Bonney, LVGS Tutor, provided a moving testimonial about her experience as a literacy volunteer.
The Keynote address was provided by Kristin Ekkens, MA TESOL, Program Director, Customized Workplace English Literacy Center of West Michigan. Ms. Ekkens provided an overview of her highly successful Customized Workplace English program located in West Michigan. Frequently recognized for its innovation and quality, this workplace literacy program was featured in a 2008 broadcast of ABC World News Tonight with Charles Gibson.
Lastly, the Robert J. Colvin Award was presented to the Literacy Committee of Rotary District 7150 for improving the lives and literacy of adults through its Community Assisted Adult Reader program (C.A.A.R.), and especially for its support of LVGS.
